MATT vs STUPID - Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2008

"We all visit stupid now and then, we all drop in - some people live there," says Matt Elsbury.

Succinctly pointing out the mental shortcomings of modern society is shooting fish in a bucket for him. Distressed at how increasingly pervasive the culture of "lowest common denominator" is becoming in everyday life - and some truly appalling modern "music" - who can blame him for getting livid? And he does get angry, righteous fire raging in his eyes on our behalf.

Life is becoming a giant Darwin Awards. Trivia replaces news, ringtones replace songs, Google replaces real research.

The lazy option is now the norm, the combination of stupid and arrogant almost prerequisites for aspiring celebrity: "Moron is a lifestyle choice."

And advertisers are all too often complicit in this state of affairs.

Thank all that is right and good, Elsbury's here to help, bravely placing himself between us and the moron hordes.
